Broadhead Skink

I ran into this guy on the sidewalk yesterday. He'd lost his tail recently, and his new one was just a nub. You've probably seen this happen yourself, but they can release their tales when threatened and leave it wiggling on the ground as a distraction to a predator while the skink itself escapes. Nonvenomous, Broadhead Skinks eat insects, worms, spiders, and just about any other small invertebrate.
