This has been the rainiest, cloudiest summer I have ever seen. It seems like it has rained more days than not, which is usual for the spring here, but not really for the summer. On the up side, I don't think the temps have even reached the 90s yet. My yard is nice and green, but also about calf high. People are making comparisons to living in Seattle which I am sure is a huge exaggeration, but we just aren't used to all the water here. I like it, and if it weren't for my constantly flooding and draining crawlspace, I'd be content to enjoy it from the chair on my covered porch.
Well, there was a little break in the weather today, and Jack and I jumped at the chance to go do a little bit of hiking nearby. The sun had peaked out just a bit and stayed out until we were about about 2 minutes away from the local trails. Either way, Jack was up for hiking rain or not, so we started out. It was like I imagine hiking in the jungle must be like - 10 minutes of torrential rain, 10 minutes of humid stillness, and then repeat repeatedly. At one point, I reminded Jack that the last time we had been on this trail had been about a year ago, and we had to turn back early because of the high winds that were bringing down tree limbs in the surrounding woods. Just bad timing, I guess, but he took the rain today like it was a trip to the water park. He was running, climbing, and joking about it with all the energy that only little kids have. Dripping wet clothes were just another part of the adventure!
Not sure what kind of surveillance it is, but it must be bad if they have to surveillance signs in the woods.
I think this is pre-rain. See how dry he looks? It didn't last.
The mushrooms of the forest were doing just great though. Different varieties all over the place!
We've had tons of rain too. Although now it's just HOT and humid!
