Riverside
I have a great wife. Great enough that her idea of a good Mother's Day is spending it cooking out and fishing alongside the Etowah River with her two sons, husband, sister, and mom. We started out at the day use area near the dam, but the folks on the other side of the river seemed to be having a lot more fun than we were, so we moved over to the southern side after we ate. On the southern side, the water is moving faster, but shallow, and it's a great place for the kids to wade out and play on the rocks. The water was cold and clear and flowing from the upstream lake not more than 500 yards away.
There is a stretch of rock garden here across the whole width of the river that is a great playground when the dam isn't generating. The rocks underwater are covered in a hairy algae that makes them non-slippery. We didn't see a lot of fish though - just a few bream, a bass, and a small gar.
