Reversing Retrieval - Cabela's Prestige Plus Fly Reel

Last year, I fished through the season with a Scientific Angler's base fly reel and has a trail of issues with it. They did offer to replace it for me, but I decided instead to switch over the a metal framed Cabela's Prestige Plus reel. I picked it up last week at the new Cabela's they just built in Acworth, and my first impression is that it is of a much higher quality than the SA was. Even though it's still an entry level reel, it has a better feel, is aluminum rather than plastic, and the drag works whereas the SA drag never did. I am going to go give it a try this weekend at Stamp Creek, but I had to go through the process of respooling it for my rand hand retrieval.

Removing the spool is simple. There is a small spring switch, shown below, that is levered to the side as a release.

Spool separated, you can see the hexagonal retainer clip that is just inside the well. Remove that clip.

Clip removed, the one-way clutch bearing will also fall out, and this is the piece that controls the retrieve direction. By default, the white plastic side is facing up. You'll want to flip around and reinsert into the slot, with the white plastic side facing down.

Reconnect the two reel halves, and you should be all set. Just about as simple as it gets really.
