Adding a Second Seat to an Old Town Guide 119

One of the things that steered me towards the Guide 119 canoe was the myriad of modifications that can be done to customize it, especially for fishing. I suppose it is a cheap enough boat that people don’t mind experimenting a bit with doing their own modifications. I’ve posted a couple of examples below from other sites, and if you click on the pictures, it’ll take you to a thread explaining each build. But I am pretty happy with the default layout of the canoe already. I wish the seat was slightly higher, but I’d sacrifice stability by changing that. I’d like a rod holder, so I have one of those coming in from Amazon. Other than that, my only wish is to be able to have a small second seat in the front so my five year old son can come along with me. When the weather warms up, he’ll be tagging along with me fishing again, and it’d be poor fathering I think, to have my son sitting on the wet bottom of the canoe. So this weekend, he and I are going to see if we can’t add a second seat to this thing. It’s going to be made of ash and nylon webbing, and I’ll probably take this opportunity to reposition one of the thwarts and add a near-center carrying thwart. I'll take some photos and let you know how it goes!
