Played around for a bit in the garage today with some other handle colors for the puukkos. I can't find orange jute that is actually jute anywhere - it's all sisal twine with is a bit coarser.
It's hard to see in the "whole knife" pics, but the wrapping and curing process leaves these gaps on the surface of the handle. I am experimenting with methods to fill these gaps - either glass or epoxy. They don't bother my hand, but aesthetically, a smooth, fully flush grip is more appealing, I think. Or maybe it fits well with the "primitive" nature of these blades?
Hello from London!
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful!
I don't suppose you have a tutorial covering the kind of resin and jute you need, and how you put them together do you?
I'd love to make one for my son who is going to become a scout.
What a great idea!
Pete.
